Are you having the problem of your radiators being hot at the top and cold at the bottom?
There are a few reasons that may be causing your radiators to have cold spots and luke warm spots.
In this article, we discuss what may be causing the hot and cold patches in your radiators and how to fix them.
Why Is My Radiator Hot at the Top and Cold at the Bottom?
If your radiator is warm at the top and cold at the bottom then there may be air trapped or build-up of rust, sludge or lime scale obstructing the flow of hot water.
This is preventing the radiator from getting hot at the bottom.
To solve the issue of having radiators cold at the bottom and luke warm at the top, we recommend bleeding your radiator. If bleeding your radiators doesn’t work you will need to flush the heating system to get rid of the build-up.
If your radiators are still hot at the top and cold at the bottom please call us on 0808 156 9001 and one of our heating experts will be able to advise you.
Why Is My Radiator Cold at The Top?
Radiators that are cold at the top and warm at the bottom are often caused by trapped air in the radiators.
To solve the issue of your radiators being cold at the top you will need to release the air trapped in the radiators. Whether you have a new radiator which is cold at the top or an old radiator you can solve this problem yourself by bleeding the radiators.
For more information to solve why your radiator is cold at the top please read our how do you bleed a radiator article.
Why Is My Radiator Cold in The Middle?
The cause of a cold radiator in the centre may be because of a build-up of rust and sludge.
Rust and sludge can prevent your hot water from reaching the bottom section of your radiator.
To solve this problem, we recommend cleaning your radiator thoroughly.
If you do not feel confident to do this yourself please contact one of our Gas Safe heating engineers who will be able to have your radiators working correctly or may recommend you to update your system to having new radiators.
Why Is My Radiator Cold at The Bottom?
Have you been racking your brains to why your radiator is cold at the bottom?
Radiators that are cold at the bottom can be caused by a build-up of rust, sludge or lime scale.
This restricts the flow of hot water in your radiators causing the cold patch at the bottom.
To have your radiators working like new again flushing your radiators will get rid of central heating sludge and debris.
You can flush the system yourself using a sludge remover that can be bought from most DIY stores.
If you do not feel confident to this yourself, please don’t hesitate to contact one of our Gas Safe engineers.
